Fully tuneable semiconductor lasers have long been an aspiration of laser users and FAST-DOT has made substantial progress here with the realisation of picosecond pulse generation with broadband tenability (130 nm) from a mode-locked external-cavity quantum-dot laser (EC-QDL) operating at 2.3 GHz repetition rate providing and average power of 80 mW in mode-locked operation.
